FAQ: Crypto Custody for Bitget Users

Tim Schuster

Marketing Manager, Tangany

With Tangany acting as crypto custodian during this transition period, some users may have questions about their assets, access options, and the onboarding process. Below you will find answers to the most important questions in a simple and concise format.

1) Why am I being redirected to Tangany?

Bitget's French operations were wound down due to Frech regulatory requirements as of 1 April 2026. Bitget is no longer permitted to operate in France until it obtains a MiCA license. In the meantime, Tangany — a BaFin-licensed digital asset custodian based in Germany —has been appointed to safeguard your funds during this transition period.

2) Are my crypto assets safe?

Yes. Your assets are securely held in custody by Tangany, a BaFin-regulated custodian. Your funds are accounted for and protected regardless of whether you choose to onboard with Tangany.

3) Do I need to do anything now?

No. There is no deadline and no immediate action is required. You can wait while your assets remain safely held, or you can complete onboarding with Tangany at any time during the transition period if you want earlier access to your funds.

4) What are my options?

Complete the Tangany onboarding process (identity verification). This gives you access to the Tangany Customer Portal, where you can manage and withdraw your assets before Bitget is re-licensed.

5) How can I log in to the Tangany portal?

Go to access.tangany.com and log in using the email address or phone number linked to your BitGet account, together with your date of birth. You will then receive a 6-digit one-time login code by email or SMS.

6) What can I do in the Tangany portal?

In the Tangany Onboarding Portal, you can view your current balance at any time and, if you wish, complete the Tangany onboarding process. Deposits, withdrawals, and transfers are not available through this portal itself. Once onboarding has been completed and approved, asset management takes place through the separate Tangany Customer Portal.

7) What balance am I seeing?

The balance shown in the portal reflects your BitGet account balance as recorded at the time of the regulatory transition. It shows the assets and amounts that were transferred into safeholding with Tangany.

8) Why does my asset portfolio look different after the transfer?

Not all crypto assets are supported for regulated custody. Assets that could not be held in custody may therefore have been converted into USDC before the transfer. If your portfolio looks different from what you previously held on BitGet, this is likely the reason.

9) Why would I want to complete onboarding with Tangany?

Onboarding is only necessary if you want to access, manage, or withdraw your assets during this transition period. Once approved, you receive access to the Tangany Customer Portal, where you can view balances and transaction history, deposit additional crypto assets, and request withdrawals to your own wallet. If you prefer to wait, onboarding is optional.

10) How can I access my funds during this transition period?

To access your funds earlier, you need to complete the Tangany onboarding process, including identity verification. After approval, your assets are transferred to your personal Tangany custody account and can then be managed through the Tangany Customer Portal, including withdrawal requests to your own wallet.

How long does onboarding or access to my funds take?

Identity verification usually takes only a few minutes, but in some cases it may take a few business days. If you complete onboarding and want access to your funds, the transfer process can take around ten business days depending on the required checks and processing steps.

11) Will I be charged any fees by Tangany?

No. Tangany does not charge custody fees for this service. If you later request a transfer to an external wallet after onboarding, network fees may apply depending on the blockchain used.

12) Why might I need to verify my identity?

Identity verification is required if you want Tangany to grant you early access to your assets before BitGet is re-licensed. As a regulated custodian, Tangany must comply with anti-money laundering requirements before allowing you to manage or withdraw your assets.
